Amazing Ocean: Explore from Your Mobile Device

Amazing Ocean is a brand new, free mobile app developed by the U.S. Department of State that features Smithsonian Ocean Portal and Sant Ocean Hall content. The app allows users to explore photos, videos, and rich ocean-themed content on their mobile devices.

Amazing Ocean is a pilot project of the State Department/Smithsonian partnership and combines some of the best assets of both organizations: the unique and robust research and collections of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History and the global reach of the U.S. Department of State. The app is available in English, Simplified Chinese, and Bahasa Indonesian and has been downloaded in over 50 countries to date since its launch in February. It is the first of a series of joint educational projects between the organizations.

Browse through the app's collection to learn about ocean animals, habitats, and current ocean research, and chat with other ocean-lovers by engaging in live discussion threads. By surfing Amazing Ocean, you can access a portal that can help you better understand the ocean. Through this awareness we hope that you, and all of our visitors, will recognize that the ocean is alive, beautiful, and worth protecting.
