Leatherback Turtles

The photograph of the leatherback turtle makes the turtle itself almost seem an illusion. I enjoy how the color of the turtle blends in with the background almost like it will completely disappear if you don't look hard enough.

These animals are vulnerable and low in numbers. It will not be long until all trace of them will be gone. The leatherback turtle females return to the same beach when its time to reproduce and these beach are ever changing. These animals however do not change and this is what makes a dying world.

Because it shows a turtle whose primary environment is the water, on land. This could signify environmental degradation as they would only go on land to sunbathe or to lay eggs. But wait, what if the seas were becoming polluted? Then would the turtle not go on land to escape such polluted conditions?

As civilization develops more shoreline for its own pleasures (ex: condominiums, homes, recreation beaches, private beaches for cruise liners, boating slips, etc.), Loggerheads and other sea creatures that depend on tides, currents, moonlight, and undisturbed beaches will continue to vanish if we don't recognize that we must preserve the environmental needs of these precious species.
