Florida Manatees

United States
if we can't protect a peaceful creature like a manatee - who can we protect?
Sweden
I like the way the background makes me think of a closing door, and the very sad manatee appears to be left on the wrong side of the door.

As a sailor here in South Florida, we often encounter the Manatee along harbors and piers, floating along the docks and enjoying the interaction with man when fed fresh water from a hose and being petted. These gentle giant "sea cows" are almost always scarred from boat propellers, and there have been horrible stories of entanglement with plastic from 6-packs and other trash left in the water. They are endangered, and in spite of the postings about them at all marinas, more awareness needs to be brought to their diminishing population.

humans tend to destroy nature and all kinds of animals, without thinking of tomorrow...

As a Floridian, it is my responsibility to try to help our habitats.

The manatee are creatures whose lives are spent within our state waters off Florida. An animal so docile and non-threatening does not deserve to be threatened by the careless disregard of humans. We are responsible for the creatures of the world who we endanger. There is nothing to excuse our behavior if any of these species is lost during our lifetime.

They are vanishing because of uncaring people, not because of nature. They are friendly harmless animals that need our protection.
France
Maybe because human activities have an immediate and visible impact on nature through this picture of a hurt manatee.

The plight of the Manatee is so easily remedied. They inhabit a very small section of our earth. I believe that once people can see they can make a difference, that they can succeed, they will continue on and try and conquer larger and more difficult tasks.

The manatee looks unhappy! the manmade structures show it's entrapment

The Manatee is one of the first animals I can remember recognizing as "endangered." We had a lesson in my 2nd grade class about various species of animals that were threatened or endangered. I can remember being so stricken by and heart broken for the manatee. I thought they were such beautiful creatures and the stories about how they're hit by boats and loosing their habitats were so awful. We were showed a photo of a manatee covered in scars from boat propellers and I couldn't help but cry.
