I live in Florida and see this loss eac day. Very sad

In the eight years I have lived here on the Eastern coast of Florida, I have observed the decline of the manatee population in our waterway. Pollution seeping into our water is destroying the sea grass that once was so abundant that is the manatee's food source.

I FEEL IT SHOWS HUMAN INDIFFERENCE TO THE WILDLIFE.

This image of the manatee just perfectly shows how it has had to be in an area just to hopefully keep safe do to human ignorance and being inconsiderate of the under water life.people take advantage of things they are doing and these creatures are having to suffer because of it.people need to be more aware of their surroundings and figure out ways to make it better.

Of all the vanishing creatures, the manatee embodies the character we need to become to keep other living beings safe from vanishing.

The manatee is a gentle and beautiful animal that is native to the United States. These gentle creatures, the loss of their natural habitat and their dwindling numbers are a sad but true example of how our planet is evolving with the explosion of the human population and encroachment of human society on the natural environment.

The gentle way this manatee allowed photographer Skerry into such an intimate range displays how soft and unassuming the natural world can be against creatures such as ourselves, driven by the urge to consume and consume more. It shows how often others become victims of our greed and yet how willing and able those beautiful creatures are to return and rebuild themselves, demonstrating their quiet strength.
