Harp Seal

Glacial thawing could rapidly change the oceans, as we know them. Harp seals depend on the ice.

I love this picture because we could look in the eyes of the animal, from the front, as the same level, equality. The shadows suggest a rich world of the ocean that the human ignore. The contrast of colors and rich tones of blue inspires me all the rich colors of the ocean and the purity of northern icy water

It's a forgotten creature, who can't speak for itself... We must save them all. Putting a face to a cause helps it be known.

The ice in the background is breaking apart and slowly melting; the seal is looking for fish and cover from predators, neither of which are to be found; and this picture could help viewers realize how important it is to be aware of global warming and prevent harmful climate change. This image best represents a portrait of a vanishing world not only because it displays multiple factors in the vanishing world, but also because it prevents any alienation of said world by placing a seal, a very cute animal, in the middle of the crisis. This better allows the viewer to feel a bond with the seal, and thus an urgent obligation to prevent harmful climate change.

The seal rests alone of its pod, perhaps the last stander, peering straight ahead with a curious and trusting expression as if beseeching its watcher in silent request for the future. The floating remnants of ice reflect the changing climate, while the light patterns playing across the image create a chilling illusion of a metaphorical darkness closing in on the seal from all sides.
Pennsylvania,
United States
Harp seal features are very friendly and inviting. I think this helps the public to care for these issues.

There are small pieces of ice, calling to mind the melting polar ice caps.
