Manning Seamount Coral Colony

A variety of deep-sea corals and associated marine organisms colonize the rocky surface of Manning Seamount, part of the New England Seamount Chain located in the Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This photo was taken on May 15, 2004, at a depth of 1,718 meters (5,636 feet) by the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Hercules. Explore more in the multimedia feature "Coral Gardens of the Deep Sea."
