John is an Organismal Physiologist from the University of Illinois. He is studying how the Red Mangroves manage the biochemistry and physiological properties common to all plants to meet the extreme demands of the Twin Cays ecosystem. In this photo, John's graduate student, Hiro Takemasa, has moved a complete photosynthesis laboratory to the field to study carbon dioxide exchange, transpiration (water use) and light use in leaves of dwarf trees.
