If Leaves were Wings

While the partnership between divers and scientists focuses on larval species, the divers also photograph stunning images across multiple groups of species, from worms, to mollusks, to jellyfish.

“In addition to fish larvae, we see a lot of Pteropods, free-swimming pelagic sea snails. This is one of my all-time favorites, a Sea Butterfly, Cavolinia tridentata. I always wonder why something that lives its whole life in the water column would evolve to have appendages that look like leaves. And there has to be a reason.” Linda Ianniello
