Crab Gills Absorb Nutrients

The European green crab, a particularly pesky invasive species along United States' coasts, has the ability to absorb nutrients through its gills. Although it has been understood that invertebrates like mussels and clams are able to feed with their gills, this is the first example of such a skill in arthropods, the animal classification that includes crabs, shrimp, and lobsters.
