Smithsonian Institution

This Protostega gigas is a species of extinct sea turtle from 85 million years ago. They swam in North America’s Cretaceous inland sea, which connected the Gulf of Mexico with the Arctic Ocean. With some individuals over 12 feet long and up to 2,000 pounds, Protostega gigas is one of the largest turtles ever discovered.
