Juvenile Adélie Penguins

Preview Three juvenile Adélie penguins
(Danielle Hall)

It's almost a requirement that as a teenager you have your fair share of awkwardness, and it appears these Adélies are no exception.  Here, three Adélie juvenile penguins lose their baby feathers in February near Palmer Station, a United States research base on the West Antarctic Peninsula coast. Once they lose all their baby feathers they will soon venture into the ocean on their own in search of krill and other fish.
